Statement on behalf of Leeds City Council

“We’re deeply saddened by the passing of Rob Burrow – a freeman of our metropolis, and a hero to so many each on and off the rugby subject.
Rob’s performances for Leeds Rhinos alongside English and Nice British rugby league had already secured his legendary standing as one of many sport’s true greats, earlier than he confronted the hardest of battles towards Motor Neurone Illness (MND) with large braveness, bravery and dignity.
His campaigning to boost consciousness of MND, and to boost tens of millions to fund a specialist Motor Neurone Illness Care Centre in our metropolis, has been really inspirational, main 1000’s to affix him, his household and buddy Kevin Sinfield on their journey by collaborating within the Rob Burrow Marathon to boost tens of millions for charity.
Rob’s achievements transcend sport and the town of Leeds.
