Search ends for a man overboard from a Norwegian Cruise Line ship : NPR

Rescue groups ended a search on Friday for a 51-year-old man who fell overboard from the Norwegian Epic cruise ship en path to the Bahamas, lower than 24 hours after he was reported lacking.

A spokesperson for Norwegian Cruise Line instructed NPR that the person was reported lacking at round 3 p.m. native time on Thursday because the ship was crusing from Ocho Rios, Jamaica, to Nassau, Bahamas.

A search and rescue operation was rapidly carried out, however the mission grew difficult as soon as the solar set simply hours later.

“After an in depth search that was sadly unsuccessful, the ship was launched by the authorities and continued its voyage,” the spokesperson for Norwegian mentioned.

“The visitor was touring with a big group and his household on board is being attended to and supported throughout this very difficult state of affairs. Our ideas and prayers are together with his family members throughout this troublesome time.”

The circumstances of the person’s fall weren’t instantly clear.
