Former footballer Joey Barton pushed his spouse to the ground earlier than kicking her within the head throughout a drunken row at their household residence, a courtroom has heard.

The previous Manchester Metropolis and QPR midfielder, 42, is accused of assaulting Georgia Barton, 38, in Kew, south-west London, in June 2021.

The arguing between the couple, who had been consuming with two different {couples} whereas their youngsters slept upstairs, began after Mr Barton threatened to battle his spouse’s brother and father, Westminster Magistrates’ Court docket was advised.

Mr Barton, of Widnes in Cheshire, denies a single cost of assault by beating.

Prosecutor Helena Duong advised the courtroom there had been a “verbal disagreement a few household matter” earlier than Mr Barton “grabbed her and pushed her to the bottom and kicked her within the head”.

As a pal tried to intervene, Mr Barton “threw” him off and stated “do not disrespect me”, the trial heard.

Mrs Barton known as the police shortly after 23:00 BST to “report she had been hit by her husband”, jurors had been advised.

The 999 name was performed to the courtroom, and a tearful Mrs Barton advised the decision handler her husband “simply hit me in the home,” including: “He is in the home, I am exterior.”

Requested if something related had occurred earlier than, she stated: “No, it is the primary time,” including that she had been hit “within the face”.

Jurors had been advised that when law enforcement officials arrived at about 23:30, Mrs Barton advised them: “I have been pushed down and kicked about and stuff.

“He stated he was going to battle with my brother and my dad.”
