Huge 50ft sinkhole appears on Merthyr housing estate as homes evacuated
Residents have been advised to keep away from the world after a big sinkhole appeared on a housing property in Merthyr Tydfil.
The sinkhole opened up on Sunday, 1 December, at Nant Morlais, Pant, resulting in 30 properties being evacuated.
The sinkhole was attributable to a collapsed culvert – a construction which permits water to move below roads and railways.
The sinkhole has continued to develop, with additional cracks showing within the highway floor, Merthyr Tydfil Council’s chief has stated.
