CWA Statement Regarding Passage of the Social Security Fairness Act

WASHINGTON – After the U.S. Senate handed the Social Safety Equity Act of 2024, the Communications Staff of America (CWA) union launched the next assertion by CWA Public, Healthcare and Schooling Staff Vice President Margaret Prepare dinner:

Our union represents over 130,000 public service staff in dozens of states throughout this nation. For many years, tens of 1000’s of CWA members and their households have requested for a good deal and to repair the unjust insurance policies of the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Authorities Pension Offset. These insurance policies unfairly slashed the retirements of hundreds of thousands of public service staff after lifetimes of serving their communities.

These unjust insurance policies hit common of us who’ve devoted their lives to careers of service – of us like Susan, a CWA member and retiree from Columbus, Ohio who acquired up and went to work on a regular basis for many years to assist with dietary wants for kids in her metropolis and serve these in actual want. Susan didn’t ask for a lot from that work – however what she counted on was with the ability to retire with dignity and safety in the neighborhood she’d labored so onerous to strengthen.

At this time, the promise of a dignified retirement for public service staff like Susan has been restored via the passage of the Social Safety Equity Act. Hundreds of thousands of working class individuals, individuals who make our communities work every day, will now get the retirement that they’ve earned and deserve.

Our members are grateful for the advocacy and friendship of Senator Sherrod Brown in defending the dignity of onerous work in his work on this invoice.
